A meticulous post-fire reconstruction of a historic San Francisco landmark, balancing exact historical preservation with modern seismic upgrades.
Rebuilding a heavily fire-damaged historic church required navigating incredibly strict historical preservation guidelines. We had to perfectly match the original facade, reconstruct the complex dome, and custom-fabricate wooden windows to exact historical specifications, all while bringing the entire structure up to modern seismic safety standards.
Working closely with the historic department, we laser-scanned surviving elements to reverse-engineer the original architecture. We sourced specialized craftsmen to hand-fabricate the wood windows and reconstruct the dome precisely as it was. Simultaneously, we discreetly integrated advanced structural steel reinforcements within the walls, seamlessly upgrading the building's seismic integrity without altering its historical appearance.
